ELIA Warmly Welcomes Our Most Recent Member: University of Latvia, Department of Art and Technology

We are delighted to welcome our newest member: University of Latvia, Department of Art and Technology

Founded in 2018, the University of Latvia, Department of Art and Technology (DAT) is the newest academic constituent of the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Art. With this, it builds on the enduring legacy of the University of Latvia; a faculty that is over a century old and stands as one of Latvia's foremost institutions.

With a strong focus on visual art, design and applied art, DAT boats a strong academic staff, with one third already in possession of their doctorates and the rest in the process acquiring theirs. Students are mentored through creativity, interdisciplinarity and original approaches that ensure they develop innovative and economically significant works as they go forward in their artistic endeavors.

Located in the heart of Latvia's capital, Riga, alongside the university's other departments, students in DAT enjoy a vibrant environment alongside their peers. In a city filled with rich culture, art students have the benefit of enjoying its theatrical heritage through theatres such as the Latvian National Opera and Mikhail Chekhov Riga Russian Theatre, as well as drawing inspiration from its large collection of Art Nouveau buildings that decorate the city.
