Open Call for the Arts & Ecology Working Group
Wednesday 6 November 2024

ELIA is excited to announce the launch of the Arts & Ecology Working Group, a new initiative under our strategic focus on ecological responsibility. We call upon our members to propose candidates interested in joining this new working group.
The Arts & Ecology Working Group will play a crucial role in advancing eco-responsible practices within the higher arts education sector and beyond. We seek working group members (staff and students) with diverse expertise, interests, and experiences to contribute to our mission of integrating green competencies and practices into higher arts education.
About the Arts & Ecology Working Group The Arts & Ecology Working Group will support ELIA members by curating peer exchange opportunities, networking, and content output. They will manage the Arts & Ecology Community Hub, host gatherings, advise on advocacy, and meet bi-monthly online and annually in person.
The working group will focus on the two areas described below:
1. Climate action, climate change mitigation, and adaptation within higher arts education institutions. Arts universities can lead in climate action by adopting sustainable practices and embedding eco-responsibility across all areas, requiring shifts in mindset and practice. Leadership strategies that empower change-makers, including students, are essential to drive this transformation. The working group will convene to share insights and tackle key questions on advancing climate action within their institutions and the broader higher arts education sector.
2. Integrating green skills, competencies, and ecocritical thinking into curricula and arts (education) practices. This working group emphasises eco-responsibility in higher arts education, aiming to equip students with green skills and future-ready curricula. It fosters innovation and knowledge through transdisciplinary, co-creative approaches, connecting higher arts education with interdisciplinary frameworks like STEAM to prepare students to live and work sustainably in a changing world.
Who Can Apply? ELIA members with relevant expertise or interest are encouraged to apply. We have six open spots, and we aim to include four staff and two students, ideally from different member institutions and countries to reflect the diverse and dynamic character of the ELIA network. The deadline for applications is 1 December 2024.
