New Open Access Volume Explores “Uncertain Curiosity” in Times of Transformation
Wednesday 23 April 2025

A new open access volume, Uncertain Curiosity: Epistemic, Infrastructural, and Cosmological Conditions of Change, rethinks the role of curiosity in an era of rapid societal and ecological transformation. Inspired by Helga Nowotny’s Insatiable Curiosity, the book argues that understanding today’s complex changes requires transforming how we pursue and define knowledge. Blending case studies, poetic language, and visual culture analysis, contributors explore how curiosity can flourish amid uncertainty, ambiguity, and shifting futures. The encyclopedic structure centers on key terms that reflect transformation and processual thinking.
The volume is edited by Lisa Stuckey, an art and cultural studies researcher and senior scientist at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, and Alexander Damianisch, head of the Department Support Art and Research at the same institution. Both editors bring deep expertise in artistic research, philosophy, and interdisciplinary knowledge development.
The title will be released on 28 July 2025 but is available to pre-order through the publisher’s official website.
