Typography is a field of visual communication design aimed at facilitating the reading process. The objective of the course is to provide future designers with the necessary knowledge and skills to set their communication objectives and to develop appropriate means of achieving them. In this process, a broad interdisciplinary approach to typography is essential. We place great emphasis on the design process, social responsibility of the designer, ethical attitude and the use of research results for the purpose of diagnosing actual needs, defining user specifics and user contexts, and prototyping solutions.

Learning content includes:

  1. System design (typography understood as a system of information processing and transmission as well as knowledge creation)
  2. Building appropriate design solutions based on relationships between: the project's communication goal, the specifics of the recipient, the functional context, the medium, the communication channel
  3. Prototyping and testing
  4. Documenting the course of the design process and creating documentation of the project concept
  5. A holistic approach to the project problem
  6. Effective use of typographic means

We ask the visiting professor to prepare two versions of the course outline: for on-campus or online delivery. The course outline should specify the learning content and teaching methods, including the lectures and learning materials. We prefer the course to be delivered on campus, if the pandemic situation allows it, but we also consider having the first session online and the second on campus.
