| ELIA FAQ |
FAQELIA is a globally connected European network that provides a dynamic platform for exchange and development in higher arts education. It represents approximately 260 members in 48 countries, across all art disciplines. ELIA advocates for higher arts education by creating new opportunities for its members and facilitating the exchange of good practice. ELIA realises its aims by organising events, forming cross-membership working groups, participating in research projects, supporting members in finding partners, producing policy papers addressing topical issues and much more. The principal mission of ELIA is to represent Higher Arts Education and to be an influential voice and advocate in promoting the interests of its members. In placing emphasis on the value of arts education and artistic research, ELIA is dedicated to enhancing the conditions in which Higher Arts Education can flourish, nationally and internationally. Our current time is dominated by financial uncertainty, global ecological challenges and rapidly shifting political landscapes. Therefore, ELIA’s mission is vital, urgent and relevant. ELIA's offer is inclusive and diverse, serving the needs of higher education institutions in the arts throughout all levels: from academic staff and international officers to researchers, technical staff, students and upper management. ELIA membership will benefit your whole institution. ELIA organises international conferences, seminars and peer-to-peer learning sessions, both in person and online. Furthermore, ELIA participates to projects for knowledge sharing and the enhancement of higher arts education. See the benefits of the membership to know more about Elia’s activities and visit the upcoming events for updated information on what’s coming up. You can contact the ELIA Team via email, or phone. Your ELIA membership automatically renews every calendar year. You do not need to take any action to renew your membership. More information can be found in the ELIA Statutes. ELIA's fee scale is based on two main variables: the number of students in the arts enrolled within the institution, and the strength of the national economy in which the institution is based. For regular and non-European members, the country categories apply and relate to related to the gross national income based on the purchasing power of each member country (GNI PPP per capita). To guarantee the fair placement of countries in income-based categories, these categories consider the average GNI for the past three years (2016-2017-2018) instead of a single year reference (as in some cases, fluctuation can have a significant impact). Read more about ELIA membership fees here. ELIA membership has no expiration date and renews automatically every calendar year. More information can be found in the ELIA Statutes. ELIA has a specific membership category for non-European Members. Non-European members are institutions outside of Europe (following the Council of Europe definition) that otherwise fulfil the criteria of regular full membership. Non-European members have rights equal to regular members. ELIA membership may be terminated by giving notice in writing. Termination of membership will take effect from the end of a financial year and provided that notice of termination is given in writing with due observance of the one month notice period. ELIA membership may be terminated with immediate effect if the member cannot reasonably continue their membership. In this case, the member will be required to pay the contribution for the current year. If notice of termination is not given in good time, the membership, including the accompanying obligations, will be terminated at the end of the following financial year, unless the Representative Board decides otherwise in the light of special circumstances. More information can be found in the ELIA Statutes. If for any reason you are unable to pay the ELIA membership invoice, please contact the ELIA Team.
