New Member: ELIA welcomes ESMUC

Tuesday 31 August 2021

We are delighted to welcome ESMUC Escola Superior De Música de Catalunya to the ELIA fold. ESMUC offers a host of Music degree programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Being part of ESMUC means growing in a transversal and flexible environment, where all the specialties and musical styles are represented and coexist in equal conditions.

ESMUC's mission is to prepare students so that they can achieve professional challenges on an international scale, and ensure their incorporation into the professional world, favoring the training of musicians with interesting profiles for the international market.

To achieve these goals, ESMUC relies on a model:

• Integral, characterized by flexibility and non-hierarchy among disciplines.

• At the forefront of languages and technological innovation applied to music.

• At the service of future professionals of music and also of society as a whole.

• Connected and coordinated with the educational and musical framework of Catalonia and the rest of the world.

• Open to the entire music sector, permeable to the social environment and driving music in all its dimensions.

The Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) has included research among its objectives since it first began. The Reorganization Process of the European Space of Higher Education, also referred to as the Bologna Declaration, has generated new bases for higher artistic education at all levels.

A new feature is the inclusion, promotion and development of research in the institutions of higher artistic education. A large part of research activities must be developed by the students in their final projects or theses at the end of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles. However, projects should also be promoted at faculty, institutional and inter-institutional level.

Several European institutions have enabled and encouraged this work to be done in the area of music. Examples are the Polyphony project or the ICON group, both promoted by the European Association of Conservatories (AEC) to which ESMUC belongs. The Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) has included research among its objectives since it first began. The implementation of this area of activity is based on the design of its own model, embraced in the European organizations.
