CREATIVE METABOLISM – WASTE IN THREE CHAPTERS

Wednesday 19 January 2022

Pictures to represent Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf (ELIA member)

Guest professor of the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf and filmmaker Lucy Beech invites her colleagues Tamar Novick (History of Science, MPIWG Berlin) and Cassie Westwood (Literature/Queer Studies, Oxford) to present and discuss their transdisciplinary research on the ecological, psychic and societal impacts of reusing waste.

What constitutes waste in the different contexts of reproduction science, agriculture and literature, what are the conditions for its categorization and what kinds of creativity are involved in its transformation? What values are reflected in the attitudes towards waste in these different contexts, what does its reuse say, for example, about our relationship to the body, its autonomy as well as its disposability?
