Update on Ukraine
Thursday 31 March 2022

ELIA sent a letter to the EU Commissioner urging actions of support for students from Ukraine. This letter signed on behalf of ELIA members by president, Andrea B. Braidt was sent to the EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth – Mariya Gabriel.
It proposed to start an Erasmus+ initiative which would provide students enrolled in Ukrainian institutions a place at a university or academy in an EU country for one year and a grant to cover living expenses.
We are proud to announce that the European Commission, and Commissioner Mariya Gabriel have confirmed additional measures which will be put in place through the Erasmus+ programme. The measures are meant to play a key role in offering support to pupils and educational staff fleeing Ukraine. The Commission is mobilising the following funding opportunities through Erasmus+:
- Ukrainian pupils can be welcomed quickly by education and training institutions involved in Erasmus+ cooperation projects, with flexible use of project funding
-
Ukrainian teachers and trainers can receive financial support to facilitate their integration
-
qualified staff may be sent, on a temporary basis, to regions where refugees are accommodated
-
institutions benefiting from ongoing Erasmus+ projects in areas such as inclusion, diversity and the integration of refugees may, on a voluntary basis, reallocate part of their funds in support of activities for Ukrainian refugees

We strongly support this step, which we advocated for together with network partners AEC - European Association of Conservatoires, CILECT, and European Association for Architectural Education. Find out more
