Onwards to Tallinn

Tuesday 24 May 2022

ELIA Executive Director, Maria Hansen reflects on a busy month - the launch of the ELIA Biennial 2022, the PIE Annual Meeting, and the growing ELIA team. Next stop Tallinn!

No stone unturned. While all of you are probably just trying to make it to summer break in one piece, there it was last week: the launch of the ELIA Biennial 2022 which will take us all to the University of the Arts Helsinki in November 2022. Mark those dates in your agenda!

This is always such an exciting moment for us after months of thinking, planning, and a call for contributions which resulted in such interest from the ELIA membership. We can't wait for it, and we hope you feel the same. But first, we get together in Tallinn for the Leadership Symposium generously hosted by the Estonian Academy of Arts and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. If you remember, we had to postpone this event due to Covid-19 concerns. In hindsight, doesn't June 2022, close to mid-summer, Estonian white nights and long summer days sound like just the right time to be in Tallinn?

More than one hundred delegates and keynote speakers will meet us there. Together we hope to identify and unravel that which is uncertain while building upon what is certain. We look forward to seeing so many of you there.

Also, in this month's newsletter, we report back on what members discussed at the Platform Internationalisation ELIA (PIE) Annual Meeting in Bratislava, which was kindly hosted by the fantastic team at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design – a big thank you to them! You will also find announcements of upcoming online events – I want to point in particular to the final multiplier event of the Community for Artistic and Architectural Research CA2RE+, which will showcase a presentation by a PhD candidate before an interdisciplinary review panel. Also presented will be the many results of this productive collaboration of several partners' very passionate artistic and architectural research (the project is an Erasmus+ strategic partnership funded by the EU)—warmly recommended to all researchers and doctoral arts students! All welcome.

Finally, I am delighted to announce we have a new member in our team. A warm welcome to Sanjhevi Kempadoo, our new Membership and Development Manager. Wonderful to have you onboard, Sanjhevi! Read more about Sanjhevi's new role in our May newsletter.
