Introducing Plymouth's first specialist arts university

We are happy to share that ELIA member Plymouth College of Art has achieved full University status and formally recognised with the new title of Arts University Plymouth, following approval by the Privy Council. This makes them the City of Plymouth’s first specialist arts university.

“Our vision for Arts University Plymouth is a new kind of art school for the 21st century, preparing graduates who are uniquely placed to provide creative solutions to the complex problems faced by modern society, spanning everything from the acceleration of new technologies and the global challenges facing healthcare, sustainability and the climate emergency; to the need for cultural enrichment through the creative arts that enrich our society and wellbeing.” Read more about the University’s vision here.

Also, the newly named Arts University Plymouth was awarded Best Small or Specialist University at the 2022 WhatUni Student Choice Awards, coming top in a list of well-respected specialist universities, such as Arts University Bournemouth, University of the Arts Norwich and the Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology.
