With more than 285 members in 52 countries, it represents over 350,000 students in all art disciplines. Its cross-disciplinary quality makes ELIA unique as a network. ELIA advocates for higher arts education by empowering and creating new opportunities for its members and facilitating the exchange of good practices. Based in Amsterdam, ELIA collaborates with partner networks around the world. The strategic focus 2020 – 2024 informs all ELIA activities in this period. ELIA is committed to becoming an environmentally sustainable organisation and works with its members on the topic eco-sustainability in university curricula. ELIA's Green Team currently consists of three members: Executive Director Maria Hansen, Advocacy and Project Manager Irene Garofalo, and Head of Content Barbara Revelli. Organisation Profile (ECHO) The European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) is an active professional network based in Brussels, bringing together 24 leading concert halls from 14 countries and specialised in classical music. ECHO’s membership represents the cultural heritage of musical life in Europe and the leading players in current and future European music. ECHO’s core activities focus on three areas: professional exchange through eight working groups for the senior management to exchange practices and build capacity; shared European initiatives, including new artistic commissions (30 in the last three years alone), a young artists’ series (Rising Stars), and research and seminars open to the wider sector; advocacy around the public value, impact, and funding of concert halls, sustainability, diversity, and inclusion. The green task force at ECHO consists of Federico Rinaldi (Network Manager), Rebecca Zimmermann (Head of Development, Konzerthaus Dortmund), Zofia Zembrzuska (Deputy Director, NOSPR), Eleonore van der Linden (Artistic Planning, Wiener Konzerthaus), and Scott Morrison (Senior Development Manager, Sage Gateshead). Job Description Are you knowledgeable about climate action and climate mitigation? Passionate about helping cultural organisations transform into their most eco-sustainable selves? Excited to experience working in a fast-paced international environment? If the answer is yes, this internship might be your next opportunity. ELIA, the globally connected European network for higher arts education institutions, and ECHO, the European Concert Hall Organisation, are hiring an intern to support their organisations’ respective Green Teams. Both networks are working towards eco-certification by the end of the year. The Green Team intern will support ELIA and ECHO to accomplish environmental sustainability goals for 2023 and achieve certification status. Given the significant overlap between the envisioned tasks, the intern will support both networks contemporaneously. The internship will be based at the ELIA office in Amsterdam and entail some travel to Brussels, to work from the ECHO office. As Green Team intern, you will contribute to creating environmental sustainability policies and action plans. Following the SHIFT Eco-Guidelines for Networks, you will implement a variety of eco-actions, some independently, some in collaboration with team members. A key part of this will be carbon footprint monitoring, mostly in relation to travel. You will be working with two influential networks in the cultural sector that are highly motivated in greening their practices and promoting environmental sustainability among their peers and members. You will have the opportunity to fully experience the certification process. You will connect to an international community of colleagues from different networks who are peer-learning and exchanging knowledge on how to green their organisations while learning from experts in the fields of eco-sustainability. Tasks and Responsibilities - Play a key role in preparing ELIA and ECHO for eco-certification;
- Contribute to creating environmental sustainability policies and action plans for ELIA and ECHO, in collaboration with their green teams;
- Implement a variety of eco-actions, following the SHIFT Eco-Guidelines for Networks. These include:
- Measures to green the office space (for instance, recycling and purchasing practices);
- Carbon footprint monitoring (in particular for travel);
- Measures contributing to the environmental sustainability of the two organisations’ international events;
- Communicating with the networks’ members about sustainability actions.
- Report on the implementation status of various sustainability actions;
- Participate in general team meetings and Green Team meetings;
- Participate in the eco-certification training and exchange sessions with colleague networks, led by experts in the field;
- Partake in the preparation of the two organisations’ events as required. This will on occasion involve travel and extended working days.
Profile - You have a relevant educational background (University or University of Applied Sciences), in sustainability (e.g., circular economy, global business and sustainability, environment and resources management, global sustainability science), international tourism and leisure management, cultural management, or liberal arts and science (e.g., university college, major in sustainability);
- You are currently in the final stages of your Bachelor, enrolled in a Master programme, or recently graduated;
- You are fluent in English; additional language skills are an asset (especially Dutch and French);
- You are passionate about the environment and care about achieving long-term progress in climate change mitigation and raising awareness;
- You are a proactive team player and are keen to learn and grow together with the ELIA and ECHO (green) teams;
- You are well-organised and able to implement tasks independently; some previous experience in project management and/or implementation of sustainability actions is an asset;
- You are comfortable with digital tools and a partly remote working environment; you are able to use Microsoft Office/Office 365 and willing to learn other digital tools when relevant (e.g., Basecamp for project management and Zoom for video conferencing);
- You have a strong interest in the cultural sector, higher arts education, and performing arts/music.
