ELIA Welcomes New Member: Shenkar Engineering Design Art

We are delighted to announce our newest member: Shenkar Engineering Design Art 

 

Shenkar – Engineering Design Art was founded in 1970 as the “College for Fashion and Textile Technology” and was named after Arieh Shenkar, founder of the Manufacturers Association of Israel and a pioneer in the Israeli textile industry. The first class of the college consisted of approximately 300 students, but the college has grown ever since. In 1976, Shenkar was endorsed as an institute of higher education, and it is now a recognised public academy. Today, Shenkar offers academic degrees across many design, engineering and art fields.  
 
The Shenkar Campus is located east of Tel Aviv, in the buzzing, high-tech hub of Ramat Gan.  The main campus has calming, outdoor communal spaces amongst the educational structures. Within this compact, urban site, progress was made to make the campus accessible and accommodating to all, integrating ramps and wheelchair platform stair-lifts. Their Pernick building received the Best Educational Building 2016 award by the DOMUS magazine. 
 
The academy offers both bachelor's degrees and master's degrees. The academy has three main faculties which are: 
  • The Azrieli Faculty of Design offers courses in Fashion Design, Jewelry Design, Textile Design, Visual Communication, Interior Building & Environment, Industrial Design and a master's degree in Design.  
  • The Multidisciplinary Art School offers a four-year programme which focuses on training artists to cope with the complex challenges introduced by modern culture. The programme focuses on the fields of knowledge and creativity which are relevant for today’s artists - including manual studio work, digital computer processing, as well as historical and theoretical studies.  
  • The Pernick Faculty of Engineering is “avant-garde”, as it combines the technical understanding, based on natural sciences, with creativity, innovation and the ability to apply such sciences in order to create valuable products.
