Heriot Watt University, School of Textile and Design is a centre of excellence in design, bringing together talented students from across the globe to study collaboratively in Fashion, Design and Textiles. Renowned fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is one of their graduates. 

 

The school's history began in 1883, with classes in weaving, dyeing and chemistry. The merger of the Scottish College of Textiles with Heriot Watt University in (1997) heralded the new beginnings for the School of Textiles & Design.  

 

Heriot-Watt is a global university with campuses in Edinburgh, Galashiels, Orkney, Dubai and Malaysia. The School of Textiles and Design operates from two campuses located at Galashiels in the Scottish Borders and Dubai, offering students inter-campus study options.  

 

The Galashiels campus is located in the heart of the Scottish Borders and blends a renovated historic mill with state-of-the-art facilities, combining modern facilities with rich history. The campus includes computer suites, specialised workshops, spacious studios, a library, catering facilities and a lively Student’s Association. The town is surrounded by countryside, great for hiking and biking, and the town has a thriving student community and mills and museums to visit. The town is well connected to Edinburgh and Glasgow via train or shuttlebus.

 

The second campus is located in Dubai, which offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees in Design, Fashion, Retailing, and Interior and Architecture Design. The new building, opened in 2021, provides cutting-edge design and inspiring spaces. 

 

They offer Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in the subjects Communication and Design, Constructed Virtual Environments, Fashion and Textiles. They offer eight Undergraduate courses in Communication Design, Fashion, Fashion Marketing and Retailing, Fashion Technology and Interior Design and others. They offer six Postgraduate courses in Design Management, Fashion and Textiles Design, Interior Architecture and Design and others.
