ELIA Warmly Welcomes Newest Member: Cranbrook Academy of Art

Tuesday 24 October 2023
We are thrilled to announce our newest member: Cranbrook Academy of Art

Cranbrook Academy of Art is part of the larger Cranbrook Educational Community, a 319-acre campus that also includes a contemporary art museum, science museum, and a PreK-12 college-preparatory school. It was founded by the Booths, who purchased the land in 1904 and the campus was designed by Finnish architect Albert Kahn. Informal art education began at the Academy in the late 1920s.

At Cranbrook, they believe that graduate school is the foundation for a lifelong practice in art and design. Like real life, graduate study at the Academy is self-directed and relatively unscripted. Yet students are guided, supported, and challenged by the Academy community.

The campus is 319-acre campus located just outside of Detroit, Michigan, filled with woods, lakes, streams, landscaped courtyards, and beautiful buildings. Detroit is an international and diverse city. It is known as a cultural center, known for its music, art, architecture and design. There are plenty of opportunities for students to be involved in the city. Studying at Cranbrook offers the opportunity to work within a close community of creative thinkers while also being within a short drive of one of the most prolific cities of emerging art and design.

The campus has production facilities, critique rooms, social areas, kitchens and more.

The Academy offers interdisciplinary opportunities, including elective study and the opportunity to exhibit their work in the Graduate Degree Exhibition at Cranbrook Art Museum.

The Departments offered include 2D Design, 3D Design, 4D Design, Architecture, Ceramics, Fiber, Metalsmithing, Painting, Photography, Print Media, Sculpture.

We warmly welcome Cranbrook Academy of Art, and we look forward to working together in the future.

Welcome to ELIA!
