An Enthusiastic Welcome to ELIA's Latest Member: Luleå University of Technology

We are delighted to announce our newest member: Luleå University of Technology  
 
Luleå University of Technology was founded in 1971 as Luleå University College, with only 50 students enrolled. In 2021, Luleå University of Technology celebrated its 50th anniversary, and they have in present day grown to include 17660 students, 1840 staff members, 270 professors and 410 doctoral students. They now offer 66 research subjects and offer more than 200 courses in English.  
 
The mission of Luleå University of Technology is to shape the future through innovative education and ground-breaking research results. Their two main goals are to be a challenge-driven university, acknowledged for its contributions to a competitive and sustainable society and to be characterised by interdisciplinary and top-quality education and research. Their scientific and artistic research and education are conducted in close collaboration with international, national and regional companies, public actors and leading universities. Luleå University of Technology has a total turnover of SEK 1.9 billion per year. 
 
They have various campuses located in Kiruna, Luleå, Piteå and Skellefteå, in Sweden.  
 
They offer Bachelor programmes in Computer Graphics for Games and Films, Computer Game Development and Programming and Music – among others. They also offer various Master programmes such as in Music Performance and Musical Performance – Master of Arts among many others.  
 
The School of Music is located on the university campus in Piteå. There are also programmes in journalism, sound technology and dance which are offered as part of the School of Music. It provides good opportunities for collaborations between disciplines. They also have a Theatre Academy, at which they offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Acting and Bachelor Programme in Cross-disciplinary Stage Production.  
 
Aside from this, they offer single subject courses, Further Education courses for Professionals and Free Online Courses (MOOCs).  
 
Luleå University of Technology also offers exchange programmes, such as the ERASMUS programme, the American-based ISEP (the International Student Exchange programme) and NORDPLUS within the Nordic countries. Each year, there are about 400 exchange students at Luleå University of Technology.
