Call for Abstracts: CA²RE Évora Conference 2025
Tuesday 13 May 2025

The CA²RE Conference 2025 will take place from 9 – 11 October and will be hosted by the University of Évora, Portugal. This year's conference invites design-driven and artistic researchers to submit work under the theme MAPPING. The event promotes critical dialogue and intensive peer review, encouraging experimental formats and interdisciplinary approaches.
Mapping is redefined not just as a spatial or technical tool, but as a conceptual and cultural method of exploring environments. It challenges dominant spatial narratives and offers inclusive, critical, and ecological perspectives through drawing, performance, and visualisation. Participants are asked to frame their submissions around one of three approaches:
Mapping INTO research: using mapping to explore contexts and theories;
Research THROUGH Mapping: mapping as a core research method;
Mapping FOR future practice: mapping as a preparatory or supportive tool.
Submission
First Stage (by 16 July):
Extended illustrated abstract or artefact description (with images)
Short reflection (max 250 words)
Short CV (max 100 words)
Second Stage (by 7 July): Layout details provided upon acceptance.
Workshop
A conceptual mapping workshop led by architect and photographer Duarte Belo will precede the conference, culminating in a group exhibition at Fundação Eugénio de Almeida.
Format & Publication
Each participant will have 60 minutes to present their research. Selected contributions will be invited for publication. All abstracts will appear in the conference book.
