Tuesday 21 October 2025

Dates: 27–29 October 2025

Locations: Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli & Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli (MANN)

Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA), in collaboration with the Accademia di Belle Arti Napoli, presents Unframing Knowledge: Artistic Research Beyond Theory and Practice, the first international conference on Artistic Research in Italy.

The three-day event will bring together over 100 participants, including artists, scholars, philosophers, musicians, and filmmakers to explore the vitality and diversity of contemporary artistic research. Contributions have been selected through a double-blind peer review process, ensuring high academic and interdisciplinary standards.

Unframing Knowledge provides an open space for dialogue and collaboration across disciplines, highlighting the relationship between the arts and emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, ecological and social engagement, and new forms of artistic dissemination.

The conference features keynotes, talks, and round tables by leading international figures, including ELIA Vice President Jørn Mortensen, speaking on behalf of ELIA. Other notable speakers include curator Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, composer Mauro Lanza (IRCAM, Paris), philosopher Emanuele Coccia, and filmmaker Antonietta De Lillo.

Seven thematic strands will guide discussions, covering topics such as AI and music, media art, Mediterranean ecologies, and innovative dissemination of artistic research. Complementary events include a String Quartet Concert curated by Fondazione Accademia Teatro alla Scala and workshops led by artists Irene Fenara and Emilio Vavarella.

All events are free and open to the public, with registration required here>

The conference is part of P+ARTS, Partnerships for Artistic Research Technology and Sustainability, a NextGenerationEU-funded initiative connecting ten Italian institutions and international partners, aiming to strengthen the role of artistic research as a tool for knowledge, innovation, and social transformation.
