Concordia University Launches School of Performance
Friday 7 November 2025
The Faculty of Fine Arts in Concordia University is launching Quebec's first School of Performance, bringing together Contemporary Dance, Music, and Theatre. It's doors will officially open in September 2026 and will serve as an interdisciplinary hub designed for the future of the performing arts. By fostering closer exchanges between the disciplines, the School will provide fertile ground for hybrid practices, experimental productions, and new approaches to performance making that is inclusive and flexible. Students will also benefit from Concordia's strong connections to Montréal's vibrant cultural ecosystem. The School's vision embraces both disciplinary depth and cross-disciplinary exploration. Programmes will support students in developing their own artistic voice while engaging with contemporary frameworks such as decolonial, anti-racist, and Indigenous perspectives in the performing arts. New and evolving courses, such as Inclusive Perspectives in Dance, taught by Kama La Mackerel, reflect Concordia's commitment to artistic diversity, social engagement, and critical practice. This initiative marks a significant step in performing arts education in Canada. It highlights how universities can reimagine performance training to meet the needs of today's artists and audiences, blurring boundaries between art forms and expanding the reach of performance in contemporary culture.
