30 Years of ELIAIn 2020 we celebrate 30 years of being connected as a sector through professional development and exchange across all disciplines of the arts. We applaud the many individuals and institutions that invested time, talent, and resources to make ELIA the strong and relevant network it is today. 1990ELIA is founded during its first international Biennial Conference, ‘Imagination and Diversity, Europe’s richness; co-operation on Education in the Arts’ (5 October, Amsterdam). As primary initiator of the conference, Carla Delfos is considered Founder of ELIA. She becomes ELIA’s first Executive Director. Patrick Talbot is ELIA's first President, serving until 1992. ELIA has so far a total of 10 acting presidents. 
1991ELIA’s First Representative Board is elected in Budapest. (Picture: ELIA Board at Biennial, Strasbourg). 
1995Non-European ELIA membership group is created. 
1996-2010ELIA is awarded a Thematic Network Grant by the EU for its ‘Thematic Network for Higher Arts Education in Europe’. Three more grants are awarded in the following years, until 2010. 
1997First ELIA website is operational. 
2000Manifesto for Arts Education in Europe is published in response to the Bologna Process for higher education. 
2003First ELIA Teacher’s Academy (Barcelona) and first ELIA Leadership Symposium (Los Angeles). 
2008-2012Languages through Lenses, short film competitions for students, illustrate the enriching experiences of cultural exchanges and learning foreign languages. 
2008-2013ELIA is twice awarded an operation grant by the EU Culture Programme: Art Futures. 
2009-2017NEUNOW Yearly Festivals, originally developed for the Vilnius European Capital of Culture 2009 and supported by the EU through three NE©XT Grants (2011–2018). 
2010ELIA launches its current logo and visual identity. 
2010-2013SHARE Academic Network (Step-change for Higher Arts Research and Education), an EU funded project – followed by creation of the Artistic Research Working Group. 
2012-2015EQ arts, a project developing a distinctive approach towards Quality Assurance and Enhancement. Since 2015, EQ-arts has continued as an independent body. 
2015-2018European Academy of Participation is ELIA’s first Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership. ELIA has since participated in multiple partnerships with various members and networks. 
2016Florence Principles on the Doctorate in the Arts position paper is published.

2018Launch of ELIA Platforms: PIE (Platform Internationalisation ELIA), Sustainable Careers and Artistic Research. 
2020ELIA celebrates its 30 year anniversary on 5 October and launches a new website.
2020ELIA is awarded charitable status (ANBI) and signs a collaboration agreement with ETHO to join forces.
2020First ELIA Biennial Digital Conference ‘Expanding the Arts’, hosted in midst of Covid-19 pandemic, highlight of ELIA’s first year of online content.
