Future European consortium for Creative and Cultural IndustriesTuesday 17 November, 10:30 - 11:30 CET The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) will launch a call for a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) in the field of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI). What does it mean for higher arts education institutions and how can they get involved? This session will provide information on how KICs are developed and operate. Arts in EducationTuesday 17 November, 11:00 - 13:00 CET ELIA’s working group on Arts in Education has been looking at how art, design and the performing arts are being taught at primary and secondary school across Europe and is engaged in the discussion on curricula and the creation of a European Area of Education and Culture by 2025. In addition to its work in educational and cultural politics, the group would like to revive its focus on areas of more immediate impact from within Higher Arts Education, such as ‘Lifelong Learning’ and ‘Teacher training’. Sustainable Careers in the Arts Platform MeetingTuesday 17 November, 11:30 - 13:00 CET Sustainable Careers in the Arts is a platform for knowledge sharing around four priorities:
The definition a career in the arts certainly includes full-time artists, but to a much greater extent, careers built on artistic competencies which are put into practice in all sectors of society today. During this session, ELIA members get together to share teaching methods, experiences and challenges, in order to prepare students for sustainable and fulfilling artistic careers.
European Funding Tuesday 17 November, 11:30 - 13:00 CET What are the funding programmes that higher education institutions in the arts can apply for? This interactive session provides up to date information on European funding programmes and policies, with a particular focus on the European Universities initiative. You can find the presentations of Florence Balthasar, Elena Tegovska and Manuel Damasio, who led the discussion in this session.
Digital Walkabout Tuesday 17 November, 14:00 - 16:00 CET We invite you to come on a virtual walk with us to discuss questions like: What is the impact that new technologies have on higher education in the arts; or what does kissing have to do with digitality? Maybe, we will find some answers. After a brief introduction, we will conduct the walk-about. You will be paired with another participant. For this session, you’ll need a fully charged smartphone with headphones, a good Internet connection and you should be willing to move around — even if it rains! This session is organised by the ZHdK Team E-Learning as part of the online community of practice «Exchanged» that is also supported by ELIA. ETHO MeetingTuesday 17 November, 14:00 - 17:00 CET In the past year, ELIA has joined forces with ETHO, a network of higher arts education technical staff. Established in 2016, ETHO aims to advance hands-on learning and innovation in all artistic disciplines through an inclusive community. All technical staff are welcome to join the ETHO meeting, which will focus on a range of operational and strategic topics for technical services.
PIE Meeting Tuesday 17 November, 14:00 - 17:00 CET PIE is a platform for sharing knowledge on implementing the different facets of internationalisation within higher arts education institutions. Faced with the dilemmas of the 21st-century, ELIA members get together to share experiences and discuss the impact of internationalisation strategies on curriculum development. How can internationalisation strategies support institutions to achieve their goals, and deal with today’s challenges, such as pandemics, inclusion and diversity, climate change and the integration of environmental sustainability in higher education in the arts? Catch up on the session presentations by Katie McKee, Sandra Mell, Aparajita Dutta and the team of Anne Stresing, Regina Werner and Christian Kästner.
Artistic Research Platform Meeting Tuesday 17 November, 14:00 - 17:00 CET In the past year, ELIA has been part of a group of arts education stakeholders who have worked together promoting and lobbying for the value and recognition of the OECD’s Frascati Manual and the way that artistic research is described in this important document. During this workshop, working group members will share their insights on what this means for funding and the future of artistic research. They will also put forward what ELIA members can do to support these actions. You can find the session presentation here. Projects in Artistic Research ELIA maintains three ongoing strategic partnerships in the field of artistic research. We contribute as full partner to Advancing Supervision for Artistic Research Doctorates; Design Driven Research Evaluation CA2RE+; and as associate partner to Creator Doctus which explores doctoral possibilities in situations where educational frameworks don’t include them. In this session, ELIA members can find out where these projects are at.
Sustainability in the Arts (SHIFT project) Tuesday 17 November, 14:00 - 17:00 CET ELIA is part of the Europe-funded project SHIFT which aims to create a shift in the competencies of cultural leaders, specifically those of transnational cultural networks, with regards to three of the UN Sustainable Development Goals: climate change; gender equality; and inclusion of minorities. The project is currently ongoing and during the pre-programme, ELIA members can be part of the conversation covering two of the of these strands. SHIFT, Climate Change The aim of this output is to create transferable tools that cultural networks and their members can easily use to apply in their own organisations and situations to contribute to achieving the climate change goals of the Paris Agreement. ELIA is lead partner and will engage members in an interactive conversation about quick wins and lifelong changes. SHIFT, Gender Equality and Power Relations The #METOO movement exposed sexual harassment in the workplace. The culture and art sector was in the midst of the debate and Arts universities along with other organisations have had to re-examine work practices and methodologies. Our colleagues of the IETM (International network for contemporary performing arts) are the leaders of this strand, which aims to provide the sector with tools to tackle gender inequalities and outdated power relations. Together with IETM we offer an interactive session of case studies and best practice, in collaboration with Iceland University of the Arts and the Disorderly Women Alliance. Workshop with students: future arts universities Tuesday 17 November, 14:00 - 17:00 CET Together with the School of Commons (SoC), a community-based initiative dedicated to the study and development of decentred knowledge, located at the Zurich University of the Arts, ELIA is preparing a workshop on the future of arts universities. The participatory workshop, which includes students from several arts universities, is dedicated to develop scenarios for future art education and can be regarded as a prequel to the upcoming Erasmus+ Knowledge Alliance research project "Future Art School Trends 2045" in which SoC (ZHdK) and ELIA, are participating as two of twelve project partners.
