Workshop with students: future arts universitiesTogether with the School of Commons (SoC), a community-based initiative dedicated to the study and development of decentred knowledge, located at the Zurich University of the Arts, ELIA is preparing a workshop on the future of arts universities. The participatory workshop, which includes students from several arts universities, is dedicated to develop scenarios for future art education and can be regarded as a prequel to the upcoming Erasmus+ Knowledge Alliance research project "Future Art School Trends 2045" in which SoC (ZHdK) and ELIA, are participating as two of twelve project partners. 11:00 - 11:30 CET

Virtual VisitsThe focus of this virtual visit will be on: Digitalisation, commoning & future careers What is the role and meaning of transdisciplinarity in the context of the ubiquitous digitalisiation and what can transdisciplinarity contribute to the future careers? The tour looks specifically at two initiatives that are connected to ZHdK: Dezentrum and Z-Kubator. Dezentrum is the “think tank for future experiments”, co-founded by alumni of ZHdK. By researching, experimenting and creating, Dezentrum opens up a variety of perspectives on the topics of decentralisation, the future of work, digital participation, and an automated society tangible for a broad audience, thereby including it in shaping the future. The Z-Kubator promotes, as part of the Zurich Centre for Creative Economies (ZCCE), the development of independent artists, cultural producers and designers at the ZHdK by mixing aesthetic ideas with entrepreneurial practice.
15:00 - 16:00 CET
PlenaryWithout doubt, the global crisis as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic will affect every dimension of our lives in the coming years. As with other institutions, those involved in higher arts education will face changing paradigms across a number of topics: internationalisation (travel restrictions), priorities in health policy, economic and political values and practices, communication, and the art world itself. Three internationally renowned thought leaders imagine the future post COVID-19, what this might mean and what opportunities it could offer, in particular for artists and the arts in higher education. 16:30 - 17:30 CET
Student Engagement SessionsThis year, teachers are invited to bring students into interactive dialogues about transdisciplinarity. Collaborating with art schools from across the globe, a virtual think-tank will forge connections and generate fresh, collaborative thinking about the future of higher arts education.

Virtual VisitsThe focus of this virtual visit will be on: Transdisciplinarity within and beyond the arts Get to know Collegium Helveticum, a center for transdisciplinarity run by the University of Zurich, the ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) and the ZHdK, where the arts and the sciences intertwine. Within the framework of the various fellowship and doctorate programs we will introduce you to a research and exhibition project on digital infrastructures led by artist and ZHdK lecturer Prof. Hannes Rickli and Prof. Dr. Monika Dommann, professor for history at the University of Zurich. And get acquainted with the artist-in-labs-programme of ZHdK, which has been facilitating artistic research by way of long-term residencies for artists in scientific laboratories since 2003. Irène Hediger, director of the artist-in-labs-program of ZHdK will portray and evaluate her experiences centred around the cooperations between artists and scientists of all disciplines, in Switzerland and around the world. These long-term interdisciplinary and cross-border collaborations provide artists with an opportunity to critically engage with the sciences and their experimental and aesthetic dimensions. 15:00 - 16:00 CET

Virtual VisitsThe focus of this virtual visit will be on: Inclusion During this virtual visit, you will explore how design and arts are interfering in social, interdisciplinary and intercultural settings. “Hic et nunc” was developed at ZHdK’s design department and has established a collaboration with the theatre department (Theatre Education). Together they devise interdisciplinary teaching formats and new approaches to everyday questions in a center for recently arrived refugees in Zurich, and “Power to the people”; an initiative of a ZHdK student who is herself a refugee, proposes city tours from refugees for residents of Zurich as a new tool for empowering a marginalised minority of society. Discover how unexpected alternative experiences can develop into a discursive tool for exchange, education, empowerment and inclusion. 15:00 – 16:00 CET
