Showcase from different perspectives on working in Creative Tech education
We use a lot of (creative) technology in our lives, this does not mean that we know how it works or that we feel in control of that what we use. How can we stimulate exploration and discovery in the realm of creative technology? How can we empower students and teachers to take control of implementing creative technology from their own artistic perspectives? Machiel Veltkamp, researcher at HKU, presents his methodology of working with teachers and students in the Blackbox. He examines the importance building up slowly and the value of experimentation, experience and play. At HKU, the goal is to introduce students to the Blackbox and provide them with the opportunity to develop working routines, which they may add to their repertoire as an artist or designer. Wondering how Blackbox technology is integrated in the educational programme? Or how meaningful learning activities are developed? Maarten Overdijk, researcher at HKU Center of Expertise in Creative Technology, shares the project Ideation in Mixed Reality in which he develops pedagogical scenarios in the Blackbox in co-creation with the lecturers of HKU’s School of Design. All students at HKU are welcome to work in the Blackbox. We offer various ways to get them acquainted with the possibilities and to work individually or in groups, in various stadia of their study. In this session we’ll invite three students that frequently make use of the Blackbox possibilities or were inspired to use tech in their work, to be interviewed by Galit Ariel on topics like co-creation, tech practises and co-education.
Showcasing:
HKU Blackbox is a playground for creative technology and performative media. A workshop that can be booked by individuals and for groups. An empty canvas, equipped with a wide variety of facilities, knowledge and tools to quickly let students move from creative concept to viable experiment. They can use sensors, dataflow, light, sound, projection and vr as materials to create mixed reality experiences with realtime interaction. In this session you are introduced to the possibilities, like new users would be in their first visit. Come play with us! 15:15 – 16:30
