Becoming

Natalie Gerber’s artistic practice addresses the intersection of craft and design, explored through interdisciplinary experimentation and research in textiles, ceramics, photography, print media and book arts.

The sculptural work Becoming, started as an investigation in pattern and its relationship to my body. The large inter-lacing lattice like silk yardage, consists of a number of connecting textile panels hung in space. Made by fusing layers of naturally dyed, manipulated and laser cut silk. The geometric modular construction becomes juxtaposed with the fibres’ natural drape and asks the viewer to investigate the pinned connection points.
