Re-imagining Higher Arts Education Online (Part Two)

Thursday 30 April 2020

As the majority of universities and academies have closed, leaders and lecturers have found themselves having to convert their courses to digital formats as quickly as possible.

ELIA’s first virtual talk entitled Re-imagining Higher Arts Education Online (Part One) explored the various implications of a speedy transition to teaching and learning online. The Part Two session took us a step further, looking at solutions on how to re-configure existing courses and establish new learning patterns.

Presentations focused specifically on Higher Education Arts case studies. Michael Li from Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts talked about the responses and actions of instructors to the adoption of new pedagogies, tools and software in a virtual world. Jan Eckert described what it was like for educators and learners at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts to switch to asynchronous learning using new formats and platforms such as; screencasts, video lessons, audio tracks or even physical kits that have been shipped to the students. Whereas Barbara Brownie looked at how lockdown has challenged academics at the University of Hertfordshire to reflect on the extent to which there is room for flexibility and creativity in the assessment.

Presentations were given by:

Barbara Brownie Associate Dean (Academic Quality Assurance), Creative Arts, University of Hertfordshire
