ETHO Technical Community Conference 2025: Call for Contributions

Tuesday 22 October 2024

We invite ELIA member institutions to participate in the exciting opportunity to present at the ETHO Technical Community Conference 2025 in Riga, Latvia.

ETHO (European Technical Heads Organisation) is a network of higher arts education technical staff. ETHO aims to advance hands-on learning and innovation in all artistic disciplines through an inclusive community. The next ETHO conference will be hosted by RISEBA University of Applied Sciences, in Riga, Latvia from 19 - 21 March 2025. Next year’s theme, 'Crafting the Future', will explore the evolving role of technical education in shaping the future of Art, Design, and Performing Arts.

Share your knowledge

The ETHO Core Group invites technicians, lecturers, educators, students, and everyone involved in technical services and/or technical teaching to contribute to the programme. Submit your proposal to present to your peers and join us in Riga in March 2025. Let's question existing systems, share knowledge, experiences and best practices of how technical and practical skills can be implemented in the teaching of future artists.

What are we looking for?

We invite contributions that utilise forms or modes of presentation that inspire participant engagement and that traverse boundaries and intersections.

We encourage you to explore the following themes in your proposal:

  • Harnessing the Power of New Technologies

How are these rapid technological changes affecting technicians and technical education, and what strategies can help them adapt to future developments?

  • Working with Students: Quality of Teaching and Learning

How can technicians support students, foster resilience, and create environments where tradition and technology flourish together?

  • Creative Solutions for Eco-Responsibility

How are emerging areas of creative practice—such as circular economy, climate-adaptive, nature-inclusive, and regenerative approaches—impacting technical fields and hands-on education?

  • Health and Well-being: Supporting Our Communities

What are the needs of the technical community and what changes can be made even when facing financial pressures?
