Organised by ELIA and Community Arts Network, this online session was based on From Margins to Masterpieces: Charting Pathways to Strengthen Arts in Global Public Education, a new report commissioned by Community Arts Network and Community Arts Lab-Porticus.
The session charted a roadmap for addressing challenges and strengthening arts education. Participants discovered recent findings and comprehensive, up-to-date case studies and examples on integrating the arts into public education systems in a global context. Key barriers and opportunities for advancing arts education were explored, as we highlighted national initiatives and models from diverse country contexts, and map out current advocacy efforts and policy debates shaping the current global agenda.
From Margins to Masterpieces
Lead researcher of the report Dr. Heddy Lahmann, Professor and Deputy Program Director of International Education at New York University presented useful toolkits and strategic recommendations for integrating and reinvigorating arts
into public education systems.
“This report is a resource, a reference, and a reminder that arts education is not just a luxury for some children, it is a necessity for all children.” - Heddy Lahmann
Together with the Arts Education for All and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) Working Groups, we discussed how to improve the inclusivity and accessibility of the arts for all ages while encouraging cross-sectional learning.
Open to both ELIA members and non-members, the webinar gathered educators, artists, policymakers, and advocates to get ahead of the curve on strategic arts in education initiatives and champion change.
