ARTS EDUCATION FOR ALLArts Education for All Working Group ELIA’s Arts Education for All working group has been looking at how art, design and the performing arts are being taught at primary and secondary schools across Europe, and is engaged in the discussion on curricula and the creation of a European Area of Education and Culture by 2025. In 2019, the working group provided input to a joint advocacy action by ELIA and AEC. This was specifically related to the recommendations on key competences and Lifelong Learning developed by the Council of Europe. The group’s key intervention was to successfully call for the inclusion of the ‘A’ in STEAM in this recommendation. A great amount of research, data, and analysis has been collected in the past two years, supported in great part by the team at HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. In addition to its work in educational and cultural politics, often jointly with colleague network AEC, the group aims to concentrate its focus in the coming years on areas with more immediate impact on Higher Arts Education and, therefore, ELIA’s member institutions, such as ‘Lifelong Learning’ and ‘Teacher Training’. The working group hosted an online session for the members at the ELIA Biennial (Digital) Conference 2020. If this topic interests you and you are on staff at an ELIA member institution, you can join the Arts Education for All Online Platform in the signed-in environment, MyELIA.
